Engraving of the Ethiopian forest, coffee in flower and fruit under high trees
Ethiopia — the forest the plant came from.

Arabica grows wild in one place on earth: The highland forests of southwestern Ethiopia, in the shade of taller trees. Nobody planted it. This variety carries a number rather than a name because the research institute catalogued it as it found it, growing, and propagated it unchanged. Washed, so nothing is added. It will barely taste like coffee — lemongrass, white flowers, closer to tea. Everything after this cup is a departure from it.
