One afternoon in October, and then two tastings for the rest of the year

The first tasting

Three sittings of twenty-two, one afternoon. Every seat is paid.

This is the one afternoon of the year when the long tasting is open to everyone. After it, the six rarest coffees of the year are poured for members only.

The house opens for the first time on the twenty-second of October, in Abu Dhabi. Twenty-two people are seated at each of three sittings. The coffees poured that afternoon are from the year’s selection, and some of them are never sold by the bag.

The six are poured with caffeine or without, and the tray does not change. If you take yours without, tell us when you ask for a seat: you will be given the quiet six, in the same order, at the same moment, with the same cards.

The next tastings

Seoul is coming soon, then Singapore, Dubai and Abu Dhabi again. Each city's date is set once enough names are held. The list hears first, a few days before anyone else.

How a seat is taken

One
You leave your name and email here. The hour can be chosen later, from our letter.

If a seat is yours, we write to you with a link. There you choose your hour, and whether to pay online or at the door.

The address is sent to the guests twenty-two hours before the afternoon.

After that evening the room keeps two kinds of tasting. One is open to anyone, any day, at the shop. The other is poured four times a year, on special days, for twenty-two people who are members or special guests.

Twenty-two Minutes · open to anyone

Twenty-two minutes is about as long as a coffee takes to cool — and to become a different coffee on the way.

Three are chosen the week you come: close enough to be argued over, far enough apart that the difference is unmistakable. Someone sits with you a while and speaks of wherever these ones came from — a slope, a family, the week the cherries were picked. Their names go home written down, along with the rare pleasure of having tasted something on purpose.

The Long Way Home · members

Some coffees never leave the mountain they grew on. Four evenings a year, six of them do.

There are coffees that exist for a single season and then never again — one slope, one harvest, a few kilos in the whole world, made by a coincidence of tree, weather and hands that will not repeat. Finding them is the reason we travel: long roads, a season of waiting, and the trust of the families who grow them. What comes back is carried here by hand. It is poured on the amethyst tray, over forty minutes, while the story of where it was found is told — twenty-two people in the room, and no one else. When the last of a lot is poured it is finished for good, and everyone there knows they were among the few who will ever taste it. Members are asked first.

There is no clock in the room. A house named for a time keeps time carefully — but never asks a guest to.
